3 Reasons Why Pinterest is Marketing on Autopilot (& Why You Need to Be on Pinterest Right Now)

I may be a little biased 😉, but Pinterest is easily one of the platforms that I spend the least time on that brings me the MOST long-term exposure for my business.

Pinterest plays the long game. Which means two things:

1) you have to have patience when first starting on the platform because the results gradually start to add up

2) it’s one of the best platforms for marketing your business long term aka making sure that your business footprint doesn’t just live on for a mere 24 hours (*cough* IG stories *cough*)

While Pinterest plays the long game, it’s also low maintenance & once you have your content & Pins ready, it can pretty much run on autopilot while you do all the things you really want to do.

And I don’t know about you but I definitely don’t need another thing on my entrepreneurial plate that’s hard, messy & requires way more HOURS than I intend to spend on it.

So let’s chat about the 3 reasons why Pinterest is marketing on autopilot. And expect to be convinced to get on this magical Platform ASAP if you aren’t on it already👇🏼

3 Reasons Why Pinterest is Marketing on Autopilot

1. IT’S A SEARCH ENGINE SO THERE’S ALWAYS GOING TO BE PEOPLE OUT THERE SEARCHING FOR THE SOLUTION YOU OFFER

Think of it like this: Pinterest users are there with a purpose. They have a problem and they’re looking for a solution. Isn’t that why we go on search engines?

TO FIND THE ANSWERS TO OUR QUESTIONS OR SOLUTIONS TO OUR PROBLEMS!

So when your content is on Pinterest (or any search engine), you’re investing in a long-term marketing solution that will bring in new traffic to your website every single day. Why? Because people will ALWAYS be searching for inspiration, answers and solutions to enhance their lives.

Let me give you an example of how people find you on Pinterest:

Let’s say you’re a website designer for female creatives. There’s an entrepreneur (your target audience) who is looking for tips on how to create a website that speaks to their ideal client.

She knows Pinterest has VALUE-PACKED content so the first thing she does is a quick search on Pinterest! She then finds a beautiful, branded Pin that catches her eye & speaks to solving the problem that she’s having

She then lands on your blog, video or podcast talking about the elements of websites that convert into sales! And bam, just like that, she’s immediately in your circle, consuming the content that you created JUST for her to help take her from point A to point B

Let’s sum it up:

  • Her problem = not knowing how to create a website that converts

  • The quick fix = you providing free content to help guide her in the right direction (while showing her that you’re a freakin’ expert & that her life can be way easier & she can reach her goals 10 times fast if she invests in your solution)

  • Your long-term solution = your done-for-you design services, a DIY course that walks her through the process step-by-step, or a coaching call with you.

2. YOUR CONTENT ON PINTEREST HAS A VERY HIGH LIFESPAN

Once your content is on Pinterest, it lives there pretty much forever (in social media time, at least!)

To put it into perspective, the half life of a Pin is 3.5 months (i.e. it takes a Pin 3.5 months to get 50% of its engagement – or in other words, 50% of a Pin’s engagement will happen 3.5 months from now!).

The half life of a Facebook post is only 90 minutes. This means that the half-life of a Pinterest Pin is 1,680 times longer than a Facebook post!

And the average lifespan of a Pin is 6,000 days! Which means, people can find your content on Pinterest for months & years to come (yes, I said years!)

Crazy story: I used to blog a few years ago and then I stopped but I’m still on Pinterest. And guess what? Pinterest still brings my old blog hundreds of daily hits even though I stopped posting new content!

So a lot of the time, the content that is bringing you the most traffic now is content that you posted a while ago - thanks to the search engine algorithm that takes a bit to pick up traction.

But when it starts working in your favor - it’s long-term marketing magic!

3. USING TAILWIND, YOU CAN AUTOMATE & SCHEDULE OUT YOUR PINS MONTHS IN ADVANCE

Ok, but seriously, have you jumped on the Tailwind train yet? If not, what’re you waiting for?!

Tailwind is, if not one, THE biggest reasons why Pinterest is marketing on autopilot. I don’t know about you but I don’t want to spend my precious entrepreneurial time Pinning manually & making sure my content is getting seen. #nope

That’s why Tailwind is my favorite tool to help automate my client’s accounts (as well as mine!) Using Tailwind, I usually can schedule out a whole month’s worth of content in less than 3 hours PER MONTH

Which means that aside from creating new content & designing Pins, I only spend about 4 hours max on Pinterest every month.

That means that while I’m taking care of clients, spending time with family, or working on my next big thing - Tailwind is marketing FOR me, publishing my Pins at optimized times & making sure that my content is getting seen & distributed throughout the magical world of Pinterest.
